About SPh Transport Services

Fercon Freight was founded in June 2007. The company was started by Steven Hayes and had Fercon Foods as Business Partners. The business was started with two trucks and was primarily founded to transport stock for the affiliated business, that being Fercon International.
In August of 2014, Steven Hayes became the sole proprietor of the business and subsequently welcomed in a business partner, Ralf Wegener, later that same year. From that point forward, the business was rebranded as SPh Transport Services, which has since seen growth from 12 to 30 refrigerated trucks to service the Nation.

Payload and Dimensions

SERCO or ELITE Fibre Insulated Box that has the ability to carry 16 CHEP Pallets. Payload varies from 12,400kg to 13,000kg net mass and 13,400kg to 14,000kg gross mass.

Internal Dimensions = 8.4m x 2.4m x 2.1m

Rail and Doors

All trucks are fitted with imported stainless steel meat rail systems as well as stainless steel door hinges and locking gear.

Cooling & Monitoring

All trucks are cooled with Carrier SUPRA 750 fridge units and are on Golden Cold Maintenance Plans.

Data Cold monitoring and management systems by Peccser/Carrier is fitted on all out trucks.  This is used to monitor our temperatures with hourly reports mailed to the Operations Team.

These reports are available on request should there be any issues.

Vehicle Tracking Systems

SPh trucks are fitted with the following three different systems to enable us to monitor and take care of our vehicles and your load.

  1. Mix Telematics Tracking system
  2. Cartrack tracking system (2020/2021/2022 trucks)
  3. On-board cameras fitted and managed by RMS (Route Management Systems).

Our Drivers

For our business to succeed in these tough times when working in a sector that is plagued with fuel price hikes, continued attacks on truckers, hi-jackings and unsafe working conditions, we need to employ drivers that are exceptional, not just ordinary. Our key criteria when making appointments are based on the following:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience driving refrigerated trucks within the same sector as ours.
  • Drivers need to be accident free.
  • Drivers must have no previous disciplinary action, in particular for theft, attitude, and labour-related issues.
  • Drivers need to be neat, clean, tidy and presentable at all times and are required to possess a positive attitude and demeanour towards SPh Customers, staff and suppliers.
  • We look for drivers who have a minimum Grade 11 education.
